Navy has better geeks then the Army.
I have worked for many years writing software to support the Army. I have done it long enough to see how IT evolves and is used in the Army. It is shameful the state of most software the Army uses to support the war fighter. Most software is developed by various fiefdoms within the Army that have not tried to work together to deliver seamless solutions for all the various requirements. Solutions that industry would consider quality. The reality is that software solutions that support soldiers would be unacceptable in function to the commercial world. Most solutions such as BFT, MCS and the like are Windows based solutions that are unbelievably unstable, difficult to maintain, and move away open standards such as XML/SOAP. Where industry has found that open source is cost effective and more stable, the Army is moving away from OSS. Cost and stability should be make sense to soldiers as well.At least the Navy is getting on board with OSS.
