Where do Conservatives Go Now?

mccain.jpg

For many years now Republican’s have enjoyed watching the Democrats in disarray and seeking purpose. I suspect the dems would still be fractured if we did not have a war. Liberals of all flavors can really rally behind a war protest. As for the conservatives it would appear that we are in for a rough ride in the years ahead. We certainly have not elected a Reagan conservative since Reagan. What we are left with is candidates such as McCPain that appear to have electability but little else. Romney appears to be the best conservative is not getting a lot of love from us either.

The problem, in my way of thinking, is with the Republican party. It effectively is the democrat party of just a few years ago. The only true conservative in this election was Fred Thompson and Republicans spent more time finding fault with how he ran his campaign rather then embracing a conservative that had a record to match his consistent words. Ron Paul for his strangeness also represents a true conservative (I believe he just goes to far in his lack of support for the war on terrorism). Ron Paul and his ideas are getting thrown under the bus.

So how will this ship get righted? History will tell but it will likely require our slipping nation to get worse before more Americans and especially conservatives wake up and realize things are getting worse with liberal (socialist) agendas. Another possibility would be a major terrorist strike. Either way our country will be hosed before it can get better.

Egyptian Atrocities - A Fence

egypt tries to seal its borders

The recent stories about Palestinians flooding into Egypt through gaps in the the fence underscore something the press has missed: There is a fence between a sovereign country (Egypt) and others (Palestinians in this case). Many have condemned the Israelis who are not just attempting to control basic sovereignty (jobs, crime, etc…) but are fighting for their survival against others that daily seek to kill the citizen’s of Israel. Where is the outrage that the Egyptians have a fence to keep the beloved Palestinians out?

Glassbooth - Another candidate match up site

Glassbooth

Glassbooth is another website that quizzes you on issues and matches up your results with candidates with similar values. The results are interesting  (I was matched closest to Duncan Hunter). Fred Thompson, my current choice was a 73%. These sites can be useful but do not take into account things like your impressions of how a person conducts himself or feelings of trustworthiness. Give it a try.

Carbon Foot print vs. Food prints

How often do we ignore anything related to economics when there is a discussion about global warming? This funny piece takes another look at the carbon foot print issue with locally grown produce.  (more…)

Profiteering with Big Tobacco

The other day I went for a walk in the neighborhood and was watching the county truck picking up recycle trash from a large trash truck with a robotic arm. On  the side of the truck it indicated that (part of ) the truck was payed for “with tobacco settlement” money. The first thought is myself and others pay for that truck and the union workers who drive them. Sacramento got roughly $214 million dollars with the law suits against Big Tobacco yet the government while profiting handsomely from sales of cigarettes. In most circles this is called Profiteering. The dictionary defines profiteering as:

profiteer |ˌpräfəˈti(ə)r|
verb [ intrans. ]
make or seek to make an excessive or unfair profit, esp. illegally or in a black market : [as n. ] ( profiteering) the profiteering of tabloid journalists.

California and the rest of the government have been profiting from cigarette sales, through special taxes, while the industry has been slapped around as being illegal in its actions.  At least illegal enough to warrant billions of dollars in lost court cases. I for one think smoking is one of the dumbest activities you can participate in but Big Brother should not be allowed to conduct profiteering.

“We are in a civil war, orchestrated by radical Islamists.”

islamist burns car

LGF posted up a story that only 372 cars burned this New Years in France. This highlights that the riots of 2005 by Islamic immigrants was not a one time event. The real truth appears that as bad as this New Years was the riots of 2005 never really stopped, at least according to a timesline story. The reality is that on average 112 cars meet their fate at the hands of Islamists daily. The only reason car burning is not reported more in France is that the news has shifted to more coverage of Police that are attacked by the Islamists. Will the French and the rest of Europe wake up and see the threat that Islam is posing to it’s society?

Why is it hard to believe climate scientists this time

Sac_temps

On occasion I have the painful opportunity to talk to individuals about “Global Warming”. Those that are zealous believers, in my experience, tend to be young and liberal. The reason age is important is that I remember my teachers telling me as a child that we were destroying the planet because of pollution. Problem is that back in the 70’s we were being told that it was a coming Ice Age that would overtake the planet. If you are a Global Cooling Denier then here are some excerpts from a Time article on the subject from 1974 titled Another Ice Age?.

Kyoto - Cooking the books

 a factory gassing

This (now old but relevant) article by newscientist.com brings up a great question: How reliable are a countries estimates on carbon emission? Kyoto was written so badly that it is not surprising to see that countries may be cooking the books on their true estimates while pointing fingers at the USA. As the story indicates…

The worst offenders are the UK and France, which may be emitting far more methane than they declare under Kyoto

I firmly believe Kyoto is as much about politics to undermine the America economically as it is a concern about the environment. The free lunch that China and Germany got appear to validate this assumption.
